Semyon Faibisovich was born on 10 February, 1949 in Moscow. He studied at the Krasnopresnenskaya Art School in 1959-1964 and at the Moscow Architectural Institute in 1966-1972. He worked as an architect from 1972 to 1988. In 1976 he began exhibiting graphic arts and then fine art painting in the basements of Malaya Gruzinskaya street, where in autumn 1985 he was noticed by art dealers of New York. Since 1987 his paintings have been widely exhibited in the United States, then in Western Europe and the Soviet Union (Russia). In 1995 he moved from art to literature, he exhibited photographs, videos and installations. 12 years later he came back to painting. During this time his paintings began to be considered as classic and have significantly increased in value. The works of Faibisovich are in the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow, Russia), Moscow Museum of Modern Art (Moscow, Russia), Multimedia Art Museum (Moscow, Russia), Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (Birmingham, UK), Ludwig Múzeum - Kortárs Művészeti Múzeum (Budapest, Hungary), Zimmerli art Museum at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, USA), Muzeum Sztuki in Lodz (Lodz, Poland), the Kunsthalle in Emden (Emden, Germany), as well as in private collections in the United Kingdom, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Russia, the United States and other countries.
